Production, Research and Education

Harengus S.A. inaugurated the "Isla Pavón" Fish Farming Station in September, 2002, located in Comandante Luis Piedra Buena, in the Santa Cruz province. It was already functioning since August 14, 1992, and the Piedra Buena Municipality was in charge of its management.
In 2001 Harengus S.A. participated in a public tender for this Station, obtaining a 10 years’ concession.
Since that moment, our company started repair and improvement works that allowed to optimize activities developed in the Station:

Commercial operation. Intensive breeding of Rainbow trout is performed with a plantel de reguladores attained by means of a severe genetic selection. Together with local farmers, Harengus S. A. develops extensive fish farming activities in espejos de agua of the province, obtaining a product of unequalled quality.

Research and Education. The company is carrying out a research on Steelhead trout in cooperation with technical staff from CENPAT-CONICET and the Fishing and Port Activities Undersecretariat of the Santa Cruz province. Since 2001 there are practical experiences and guided local school visits. Students from different schools and cities of the province frequently visit the Station. During holidays, Harengus S.A. offers rented internships for students from 3rd course of the high school (Polimodal). The objective is to impulse, to encourage and to make known the fish farming activity.

Tourism and Sports. The Station is an important tourist attraction that can be visited during the whole year.
Harengus S.A. promotes the development of sport fishing through different investigations carried out on the Rainbow trout, main specie of the sport fishing in the Santa Cruz river.
