History
Since the beginning, the objective of
HARENGUS S.A. has been to offer products of the highest quality, using therefore the corresponding technology. In 1978, it started its operations with "Harengus", the flagship of its
fishing fleet, currently formed by eleven important vessels. In 1985, the company finished its formidable processing plant in
Puerto Madryn (
Chubut province), where on a premise of 70,000 m2 (12,000 m2 covered)
coldcold store for 4,000 tons, the "La Caleta" canning factory, fish meal and ice factories, a fishing net workshop, a printshop and the company’s headquarters are also located. There are 500 people working on land.
In early 1985, HARENGUS acquired the “La Caleta” canning plant in
Puerto San Julián (
Santa Cruz province), which currently operates in Puerto Madryn. On the premises where this plant was previously located, the company built a coldcold store and
a new fish and shellfish processing plant. The latter was re inaugurated in April 2004; it is related to a new undertaking in the Santa Cruz province, opened in October 2002: an Investigation and Fish Farming Station, where investigation and training activities are developed jointly with organs of the province and the
CENPAT of Puerto Madryn.
